Baby Steps

Alison has been through a lot; she’s experienced the ups and the downs. She’s been thrown around, lifted up and smashed into the ground by a little thing called love. So this time she knew she had to be careful. If she wasn’t cautious it could end in pain like multiple times before.

Dear John she wrote. She decided to write him a letter. Needing to be sure of his intentions with their relationship Allison clicked the top of her pen before placing against the paper.

I am writing you this letter because I think with the care and hope you’ve shown me so far we could be something amazing. So if you haven’t been able to already tell, yes John I do like you. I have never said it to you or even aloud. At first I was too afraid to let you in, too afraid to be destroyed again. So with that said I NEED to know; Do you want to hold my heart? Because if you promise to take care of it, I will let you. If you promise not to drop it, I will hand it to you. If you promise to show me the heavens instead of the hells, ill let you.

Her page filled with droplets, her hopes and fears sprinkled onto the page, as if it just went through an April showers. She couldn’t bring herself to write another word, so she didn’t. Stuffed it in an envelope, sealed it shut.

It’s so sad we have to guard ourselves from something so wonderful and special like we do with love. To live without the sun just so you never have to know the pain of sunburn. Is that any way to live life? In fear? And with that Alison through fear away and put her heart on the line. Baby steps. Baby steps.
